• Pretty good early reviews, I honestly didn't had this one on my radar until June when reviews started coming up and it was all great things about this title.
• It's supposed to have a sex positive message, so sign me up for this!

Top Ten Favorite Books of 2016 So Far

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Today's topic is Rewind, meaning get a older TTT that you missed and would like to do, so I'm gonna to a Favorites of my first half of the year. They are not in any kind of order and do not include re-reads, because it wouldn't be fair that way.

1. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson: this was my first Morgan Matson but it definitely won't be the last, it was perfect summer fluff with amazing friendships, swoony romance and a family that broke my heart and put the pieces back together.

2. The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick: another new to me super popular author that only this year I got around to read, this book was a quiet one at first but it won me over with its amazing character and such heartfelt, hopeful story.

3. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta: this book blew my mind, I had already read Looking for Alibrandi and liked but it wasn't everything people were telling me about, them I started SF but couldn't get myself to finish since I cried every few pages, so when I started Jellicoe Road I was wary that maybe Marchetta wasn't for me but oh my god, she is, this book is amazing and unique and I loved it to pieces (also, Saving Francesca is also one of my favorites this year but I won't put two books of the same author).

4. Trouble Makes a Comeback by Stephanie Tromly: this book is only getting published on november of this year but I couldn't wait to dive right into it after finishing Trouble Is a Friend of Mine (which I also enjoyed immensely), this series is hilarious, has one of the best ragtag groups that I ever read/watched and the mysteries are always over the top and full of twists. 

5. Firs & Then by Emma Mills: this book is fluffy heaven guys, if you want some light, contemporary read with a great romance, friendship and family dynamics you definitely need this book in your live, is that kind of read-in-one-night feel good story.

6. Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella: I love Kinsella's book since I discovered Becky Bloom, back in 2008 or 2009, since them I always know that I'm going to have a fun time reading her stories, when I discovered she was going to launch a new YA book I was over the moon and it didn't disappoint me. It deals with anxiety in a realistic way but it never become a "heavy stuff" kind of book, in a way that only Kinsella could have done. Plus for amazing family and cute romance.

7. The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes: I'm putting the first book here but the recommendation is for this series in general, seriously this is so amazing, it's a YA mystery/political thriller at its best, its VM mixed with Scandal mixed with all the feelings and all the twist-y plots possible. It's amazing and you should definitely be reading it already.

8. Uprooted by Naomi Novik: this is one of my very rare stand alone books that I wished were a series or at least had more pages, it's a very unique fantasy novel that has a coming of age story for the main character wrapped up with the salving of this kingdom, plus for the swooniest of the romances. 

9. Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler: I think that if you're on the blogging community you probably already heard of Dahlia, since she is a writer and advocate for diverse books, I've been dying to read something from her and finally did with this one and boy, it was a good idea. This is a coming of age story focused on a friendship that gave me all the feels, from sad to happy to hopeful to swoony to heartbroken, everything seriously, such a good read.

10, The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh: The Wrath and the Dawn surprised me last year as one of my favorite reads, because of its amazing and almost magical writing, the force of nature that is Shahrzad and the great love story between her and Khalid, in this sequel Ahdieh doesn't disappoint, this tale continued to amaze me and to bring on the feels.

I've been wanting to read something from Rachel Vincent ever since I discovered her books, but I never seemed to find the time to do it, so I prioritized started her first (I think) YA series, Soul Screamers, I was a bit wary because it's paranormal and it was published right on the fever of Twilight, so it could go very wrong but a lot of people enjoyed this series.

I'm impressed by this short novella, it doesn't fall into YA paranormal cliches and it didn't read like anything I ever read before. For starters a lot of it passes on a psychiatric ward, where Kaylee is because of what the doctor believe to be a psychotic break-down, I have to say that the way the whole experience is treated is a bit worrisome because it doesn't shine a very positive light on psychiatrists and/or seeking treatments but also I understand why it's portrait this way, since we, readers, know that what Kaylee is passing isn't a break-down but a paranormal experience.

That being said, the atmosphere on this short story is pretty on point with what I would want from paranormal reads, it starts of quite a normal thing, with regular girls shopping but it turns into a kind of nightmare when Kaylee has the vision, gets interned and everyone is claiming she has a mental health problem, it gets even more interesting when a girl from the hospital seems to be really interested on Kaylee too. 

Overall it was a really nice introduction of this series and it definitely made me pick up the first book right after finishing it, it doesn't show any signs of cliched paranormal stories, has a great atmosphere similar to suspenseful movies and I want to know more about Kaylee and her gift (or curse, who knows, not me). Recommended to lovers of YA paranormal that haven't still tried to read this series.

August TBR

Hey guys, it's been a while since I done a TBR, mostly because I was studying and didn't felt like compromising with something other than that, but last month I created a new shelf on my GR called "should have read it already" which are basically books that I have been dying to read since its release, mostly are backlist books, some I already own, some I plan on getting, but all are books that I'm excited to read, so now my TBR's are gonna be focusing on that shelf and they won't be as strict. 

How it will work: I plan on having on this shelf about 20-10 books until 2017 so that it can truly be a "next up" sort of thing, right now it has 50+, I already read 69 books this year so I think it's manageable if I don't stray too far from it until the end of 2016. I'll not choose the books I plan on reading, or even define a number of books for this month, since my classes are back and things are going to get intense again, until November my studies are going to drain a lot of time and energy from me, so I don't want my readings to be something strict and mandatory, since it will be part of my little free time. 

Basically I'll pick whenever books I feel like it reading from the choices bellow and go with the flow, next month I'll update you guys in my progress and which books I read. Recently I've been craving contemporary and fluffy, romantic stories so I'll probably prioritize the contemporaries between these and I'm already reading A court of mist and fury, which isn't in there but I plan on finishing this month.

Why I'm waiting:

• This series just gets better and better at each installment, so I can't wait to see to which adventures Aaron will take us this time!
• This book is going to have a bigger focus on Chelsie, which is probably my favorite character of this series (is hard to decide), I can't wait to get to know more about her and what happened in her past to turn her into what she is right now.
• The forth one will be the last of this series (Yes, sad :() so I def want to see to where this family is heading.

May TBR

Hey guys, is that time of the month again, the time where I post the only post of the month which is always a TBR haha Anyways, if been putting off doing this because I was not sure of what I wanted to read this month but this usually leads me to unintentional slumps, where I just keep starting one book and another and another and never get around to actually finish anything because I'm not sure I want to finish it and yeah, you know the drill. 

So, april was a good month reading wise, I think I managed to balance reading with other stuff on a good way that I still read, but also felt like I did other stuff, mostly involving netflix and studying but still. I read 9 books and I read all of the books on my TBR except for 1 which I'm currently reading so not bad at all, 3 where re-reads and 4 where graphic novels, I've been re-reading quite a lot (for me) this year, it's weird because when I set re-reading as a goal and want to do it on a conscious level it never happens but it's happening this year that I didn't planned, I'm loving this trend and hopefully it will continue through the year. 

For may I hope to read at least 4 books, which are A noite das mulheres cantoras (the only required reading that I'm reading this month, these past months most of my readings are towards school stuff and I just feel like I need a break right now, I already started this one last month and I'm struggling to finish it so I'll not put more books that I NEED to get to because I've time to finish these readings and I'm way ahead), them to the fun stuff - I just went on a haul this last friday and got some books that I want to get to, they are: On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta (I don't know if I'll read this and them finish Saving Francesca, which I started last year but never got around to finishing it or if I'll read SF first, I kind of want to finish SF first because I've this weird thing that I like to read the books of the same author on the order they're published), I finally got myself a physical copy of The Girl at the Midnight by Melissa Grey which I read last year and loved, so now I want to re-read it and it's so beautiful in person, Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard which is quite big and scary in person, with its almost 500 pages but if it's like its predecessor it'll fly by and last, but not least City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, another re-read, I'm actually already like more than half-way thought this one since I started it on april, but I plan on finishing it this month, watching the Shadowhunters tv show just gave me a LOT of feelings and nostalgia of this series so I just needed to get back into this word as soon as the show finished.

April TBR

Hey guys, here I'm with my (again) belated TBR. I think that I finally found my groove when it comes to reading, this year I'm not on such a binge reading mood as I was these past couple of years but I'm fine with that, I still am reading but some days I just don't feel like reading or even coming close to a book, and that's 100% okay. I've been reading around one book per week I guess, at the start of the year I read more and now with my classes I've been reading less which is understandable. 

In March I read a total of 9 books, between those 1 was a novella and 3 were re-reads, so I guess it was more than one book per week, I'm surprised by this number but a lot of the books were mandatory reading which is usually less than 300 pages so it's easy to see how I accomplished this. I read all the books of my mandatory reading which YAY for me and from my optional TBR I read 2, Seven Brief Lessons of Physics and We Should All Be Feminists, I started Mortals but I keep getting distracted by other books. 

For my April TBR I'm focusing more on my mandatory readings for my lit class, I think I'll try to read the most possible of it and try to finish the first "batch" of readings for this class so I can take a rewarding month of readings that I'm excited about and I've not had the time to read yet. I already read Dançar Tango em Porto Alegre and Tropicalia, my goal is to get to Morangos Mofados and The Hour of the Star, if I get to those and I still have time I would like to read Gota d'água and A noite das mulheres cantoras, because them I would only have two more books for next month (the two biggest but still). I don't know if I'll be able to get to all those because there is some series finales coming out this month like The Raven King and The Rose and the Dagger, so we will see.
